Baden, Grand Duchy. An Order of the Zähringer Lion, Grand Cross Auction on a field grey wool(Orden vom Zhringer Lwen Grokreuz). Instituted 26 December 1812 by Grand Duke Carl Ludwig Friedrich. (1840 1918 issue). Constructed of silver gilt with coloured glass and enamels, consisting of a Cross Patte with its arms joined through the quadrants by intricate arabesque latticework, the obverse arms inset with cut dark green glass, bearing a central enameled medallion featuring a hand painted depiction of the tower of Zhringer Castle, set within a
