The name voatsiperifery comes from two parts, voa which means fruit in Malagasy, and tsiperifery, the name of the plant which the pepper grows on. The vines of this pepper grow in the heart of the South East Madasgscan rainforests, up to 10m tall. The berries are harvested by hand, before being left to dry in the sun and turning black.
