A silver eight point star with clusters of smooth rays, the obverse medallion features the badge of the Institute of Hispanic Culture surrounded by a gothic style inscription reading Instituto De Cultura Hispanica on a dark blue enamel field, encircled by a green laurel wreath, the reverse presents a vertical pin with dual stays, the number 170 has been impressed on the reverse center, weighs 65. 2 grams, the rays have been cleaned,
