They're both from Southern California and were both founded in 1980. Epitaph was started by Brett Gurewitz to release his band Bad Religion's music and Frontier was started by Lisa Fancher who had formerly worked at Bomp! Records. Epitaph began by releasing seminal records by Bad Religion, The Vandals, and L7. Frontier started with Circle Jerks, Adolescents, and T. S.
