Portugal, Republic. An Order of St. James of the Sword, Grand Cross Badge GTRexclude obverse illustrating an upward-pointing sword(Ordem Militar de Sant'Iago da Espada). Instituted 1175. Type III. 1918 Present. A large, lovely uniface badge in silver, featuring a red enamelled cross with green enamelled laurels and inscription SCIENCIAS LETRAS EARTES, suspended from a laurel wreath, the reverse is plain silver, measures 52. 15 mm (w) x 96. 15 mm (h), weighs 54. 53 grams, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition.
