According to Warhol, the inspiration for the work came from the art dealer Ivan Karp, who encouraged the artist to explore the pastoral image of a cow. Dyed bright pink and yellow, the wallpaper promptly appeared in Warhol's exhibitions and was pasted to gallery walls
