It has ornately figured legs to raise it above the tatami floor where it was used as a small individual table (It is made of cryptomeria wood with over 20 coats of Japanese red and black lacquer

It is decorated with a round seal on both sides which reads "double happiness" in Chinese

The lidded top section is divided into two areas. This type of tansu chest was used to store valuables as well as equipment for the person of the house to do repairs on Kimono and bedding.
