Vintage Japanese Ranma Phoenix in Flight Carved Transom Rebirth Sugi Wood 67" Tsukue Artist: Hashiguchi Goyō (1880–1921)The Japanese Ranma is a decorative and functional carving used above a door way to allow airflow and light to pass though. They are exquisitely hand carved from sugi Japanese cedar. A typical ranma may be from 1 2" thick to 1 1 2" thick. These two are unusual in that the single pieces of wood carving extends beyond the boundaries of the edges in all directions in amazing detail. It is approximately 67" x 15" x 1. 25" and weighs in at about 10lbs
