Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1880 Kannon Biraki Clothing Tansu Chest Sugi Wood 36"W POSIM The lidded top swings openKnown as a Kannon Biraki, this chest was made in the mid Meiji era (c. 1880's) of sugi (cryptomeria) case with kiri (paulownia) interiors. The Kannon Biraki Tansu was often given as part of a bride's dowry in order to be able to store the precious wedding kimono and accessories. This piece has the added special feature of a hidden drawer behind the bottom drawer in the safe. This chest has can be easily used stacked or separated for side by side use
