20世紀を代表するフランス人アーティスト、アンリ・マティス（Henri Matisse）の作品集。2014年にロンドンのテート・モダン、2015年にニューヨークのMoMAで開催された展覧会に伴い刊行されたもの。本書は、後期の作者を象徴する切り紙絵作品を中心に、関連する油彩やドローイングを収録。アトリエでの制作風景や、切り紙絵の制作過程を記録した貴重な写真など、未公開の写真を含む豊富な図版で紹介しています。作者が用いた手法や材料から切り紙絵を再考し、仕上げとプロセス、美術と装飾、ドローイングと色彩の関係性を考察し、その大胆な色彩と生き生きとした構図で今なお人々を魅了し続けるマティスの晩年の重要作品をまとめた作品集。
